3 FAQs about [Oman 100MW energy storage battery]
Will Oman have a solar energy storage system?
Additionally, PDO is finalizing plans for a 100 MW solar PV-based IPP, named the ‘North Solar Storage IPP,’ set to include Oman’s first battery energy storage system (BESS). This BESS, using lithium-ion battery technology, will store electrical energy and supply a maximum of 100 MW peak power to PDO’s grid during daylight hours.
What is the solar-based IPP in North Oman?
According to senior PDO executives Zahran al Abri, ICV Manager and Aiman al Shukaili, Head of Renewable Energy, the proposed solar-based IPP will support enhance clean-energy based electricity supply to Oil & Gas facilities in North Oman. Integrated with the solar generation component is battery storage offering around 30MW of power capacity.
When will north Oman's new solar plant be finalised?
The plant could be finalised by March 2023 and when that happens it will supply clean electricity to oil and gas facilities in North Oman. According to the report, procurement of the new project is expected to be modelled on PDO’s prior success with a similar scheme -- the 100-MW Amin solar park near Nimr that was completed a year ago.
